One Dead, Two Injured When Autos Collide Near Iowa City, Ia.

Wellman, Iowa. — Funeral services were held Aug. 17 at the Wellman Mennonite Church for Mrs. Erma Kauffman, 67, who suffered fatal injuries in a collision five miles south of Iowa City on Saturday evening, Aug. 14. She died Sunday at University Hospital there.

Mrs. Kauffman and Mrs. P. M. Swartzendruber of Wellman were passengers in a car driven by the former's daughter, Mildred Kauffman, 39. An oncoming car occupied by two Iowa City youths apparently went off the edge of the pavement and then skidded broadside into the path of the Kauffman auto.

Mrs. Swartzendruber suffered fractures of an ankle and several ribs, and a severe injury to her voice box. She underwent surgery. Miss Kauffman sustained shoulder and ankle injuries and lacerations on her face.

Mrs. Kauffman was the widow of Frank Kauffman. Besides her daughter, she leaves a son, Donald G. of Rocky Ford, Colo., two grandchildren, five brothers and five sisters.
