Prominent Mt. Lake Businessman Dies After Brief Illness

Mt. Lake, Minn. — Funeral services for Leando M. (Al) Jungas, 67, prominent businessman and civic leader here, were held April 12 at the Bethel Mennonite Church. Rev. Walter Gering, the pastor, officiated.

Mr. Jungas suffered a stroke April 9 while eating breakfast and died in early afternoon at Bethel Hospital.

A native of this community and a graduate of Carleton College, he was associated with his brother John Jungas, in the Jungas Hardware for 31 years, retiring in 1962. He was long active in the Mennonite Economic Development Associates, and promoted rice growing in Paraguay.

He was active in numerous civic groups, and under his leadership the Bethel Hospital Assn. build Eventide Home and the present hospital building. He managed the hospital farm until his death. He was active in the Cottonwood County Historical Society, county park board, Windom Concert Assn., Crop Improvement Assn., Cottonwood County Rural Area Development, and Watonwan River Watershed.

Survivors include his widow; one son, Dr. Robert Jungas of Boston; one daughter, Mrs. Peter H. Franz of Edina, Minn.; and four grandchildren.
