• Mrs. Alvina Juhnke, 78, widow of Ernest Juhnke, died Monday at Mercy Hospital in Moundridge. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday forenoon at the Hopefield Church near Moundridge where she had been a member since her baptism in 1899. Surviving are nine children and their families, a sister, Mrs. Christ. S. Goering of Moundridge, and a brother, M. S. Kaufman of North Newton. A son, William Juhnke, is admissions counselor at Bethel College.

MRS. ERNEST JUHNKE

Alvina (Kaufman) Juhnke was born on July 13, 1884, near Moundridge, Kansas. She passed away quietly at the Mercy Hospital in Moundridge on August 20, 1962, having reached the age of 78 years, one month, and seven days.

Alvina was the first child of Rev. Napoleon R. and Freni (Stucky) Kaufman. She was baptized by Rev. Peter Balzer on Nov. 19, 1899, and became a member of the Hopefield Mennonite Church.

On Dec. 29, 1904, she was married to Ernest Juhnke by Rev. Chris Voran. To this union 11 children were born, two of whom preceded her in death: Joseph, at age two on Dec. 31, 1909, and Anna, at age 19 on Oct. 21, 1929.

Although in failing health, she and her husband were able to celebrate the golden wedding anniversary in 1954. Her husband, Ernest, preceded her in death on April 30, 1957. Her parents, four brothers (Leonard, Jacob, Joseph, and David) and three sisters (Lydia, Katie, and Anna) also preceded her in death.

She leaves nine children and their families who share in remembering her love and quiet patience. These are Emma and her husband Joseph Stucky of Moundridge, William and wife Meta of McPherson, Alvina and husband Abe Neufeld of Callaway, Neb., Elsie and husband Lawrence Graber of Pretty Prairie, Carl and wife Bertha of Hutchinson, Walter and wife Esther, John and wife Ethel, Marie and husband Daniel Schrag, all of Moundridge, Martha and husband Robert Kaufman of McPherson, 30 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She also leaves a sister, Marie, Mrs. Christ. S. Goering of Moundridge; a brother, Menno S. Kaufman of Newton; and in-laws, Mrs. Menno S. Kaufman of Newton, Mrs. Lydia Goering, Mrs. Linda Kaufman, and Christ. S. Goering of Moundridge, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Juhnke of Newton, Mr. and Mrs. Karl Juhnke of Moundridge, and Mrs. Wesley Juhnke of McPherson.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday morning, Aug. 22, at the Hopefield Mennonite Church with Rev. H. B. Schmidt officiating.
