HELEN TOEVS JOST

Mrs. Edward G. Jost, 77, died Feb 21 at Salem Hospital, Hillsboro, Kan., where she had been a patient since Jan. 10. She suffered a stroke on Feb. 13.

Mrs. Jost, nee Helen Toevs, was born to David and Eva (Hiebert) Toevs on May 28, 1897, on a farm near Canton, Kan. She received her elementary education in the Red top School near Tampa and also attended German school briefly.

On Sept 29, 1922 she and Edward G. Jost were married. They lived in Hillsboro all their married life. Mr. Jost died Sept. 25, 1971, just a few days before what would have been their 50th wedding anniversary.

Mrs. Jost was a long time member of the First Mennonite Church and was active in its missionary society. She and her husband were baptized together on April 24, 1927. She had a special interest in foreign mission work of the church and contributed countless hours in mission projects and MCC work. She entertained many foreign students in her home.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Alden (Norma) Voth, San Jose, Calif., and Mrs. Alvin (Yvonne) Dunn, Boulder, Colo.; three grandchildren; three sisters, Bertha Asman and Martha Toews, Wichita, and Anne Toevs, Lisbon, Portugal; a brother, John Toevs, Hillsboro; and a foster brother, Tom Eason, Winton, Calif.

Services were conducted Monday afternoon, Feb. 24, in the First Mennonite Church of Hillsboro with Rev. Roland Goering officiating. Interment was in the Haven of Rest Cemetery, Hillboro.
