• Funeral services were conducted Thursday morning, June 21, at the Grace Mennonite Church near Halstead for Mrs. Minnie L. Johnson, 71, who died suddenly at her home in Halstead on June 19. Rev. Carl Dirks and Rev. Arnold Wiggers officiated at the Halstead services, after which the body was sent to Fairview, Okla. for final services and burial at the Fairview Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, with Rev. Elmer Boehs and Rev. George Nichols officiating. Survivors include four daughters, three sons, and one brother, Fred of Brookhaven, Miss. A daughter, Mrs. Ellis Smith, lives in Newton.

Our mother, Minnie (Jantz) Johnson, was born June 29, 1890 at Moundridge, Kansas, daughter of Henry and Anna Jantz, and passed away June 19, 1962, in her home in Halstead, Kansas, reaching the age of 71 years, 11 months, and 21 days. Death was caused by a heart attack.

She was left motherless when she was but a baby. While she was yet a small child, her father moved to various places in Oklahoma. She learned through actual experience what life was like in the pioneer days. She received little schooling due to the conditions under which she grew to womanhood.

On March 22, 1912, she was united in marriage to Abe T. Johnson of Isabella, Okla., sharing with him the joys and sorrows of life for over 37 years, until he was taken from her side through death. To this union were born 10 children, three of which preceded her in death.

In the spring of 1916, she and her husband became convicted of their past sinful life and after their repentance and confession of Jesus as their Saviour they were baptized and added to the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, to which she remained faithful the rest of her life.

After the death of her husband she lived for a while on her farm near Isabella, and later moved to Halstead, Kansas. We remember mother as being patient, kind and loving. She spent many hours in her later years reading in her Bible and singing her favorite hymns. We as the family as well as her many friends and neighbors will miss her cheerful disposition and her acts of kindness and friendship.

Mother enjoyed fairly good health until about two years ago when her heart caused her much pain. She seemed to recover after a short stay in the hospital and after following the advice of her doctor. She was at home alone doing her morning duties when death overtook her. We mourn not as those who have no hope. By her life, she left a living testimony of her hope in Jesus as her Saviour.

She leaves to mourn her unexpected departure three sons, Tobe and wife of Fairview, Okla., John and wife of Isabella, Okla., and Delmar and wife of Needles, Calif.; four daughters, Malvina, Mrs. George Herzfeld of Halstead, Florence, Mrs. Ferry Johnson of Galva, Kansas, Fern, Mrs. Ellis Smith of Newton, Kansas, and Joyce, Mrs. Alvin Herzfeld of Halstead; 17 grandchildren; and one brother, Fred Jantz of Brookhaven, Miss.

Funeral services were held June 21, 1962, at 10:00 a.m. in the Grace Mennonite Church. Rev. Carl Dirks and Rev. Arnold Wiggers officiated. Additional services were held June 22, 1962, at 10:00 a.m. in the Fairview Mennonite Church of God in Christ, Fairview, Okla., with Rev. Elmer Boehs and Rev. George Nichols officiating. Burial was in the Fiarview [sic Fairview] Cemetery.
