MRS. SUSIE JOHNSON

Susie Johnson, daughter of John and Anna Nightengale, was born on Sept. 21, 1885, at McPherson, Kan. She departed this life on Dec. 13, 1970, reaching the age of 85 years, two months and 22 days. Death came after two weeks of illness following surgery.

Mother attended school and grew to womanhood in the Galva, Kan. community. Later, together with her parents she moved to Fairview, Okla.

She was converted and became a member of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, by baptism on March 15, 1910. She remained faithful and loyal to God and the church unto the end.

On May 4, 1914, she was married to Peter A. Johnson. They lived near Halstead, Kan. To this union two daughters and two sons were born. They shared the joys of life for eight years when father was suddenly taken from this life, leaving her heart-broken with four little children. Together with the children, mother moved to Oklahoma to live near her parents.

She was energetic, kind and devoted. Loving and caring for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was her great delight, never thinking of herself. She was constantly interested in people and doing things for others. She excelled in her sympathetic attitude toward other people. She was interested in and kept abreast of current events.

But foremost in mother's life was her walk as a Christian and her example and words of admonition to her children and grandchildren. She was grateful for our Christian heritage, always taking us to church on every possible occasion. She never felt sorry for herself but rather endeavored to put sunshine into the lives of others. Her home was open to the young an old and especially to the sick whom she enjoyed caring for.

Early in life mother taught Sunday school and was active in the sewing circle. She found pleasure in working with the youth serving the American Cancer Society.

Mother fought the battles of life, trusting in the promises of God and her Savior whom she loved and served. She has left us with the full assurance of entering into eternal rest.

She leaves to mourn one sons, Leonard Johnson and wife Ruth of Alberta, Canada; two daughters, Thelma Lost of Isabella, Okla. and Salena and husband Ervin Nichols of Scott City, Kan.; one daughter-in-law, Leah Johnson of Montezuma, Kan.; 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Tobe, Frank and John Nightengale, all of Fairview, Okla., and Anna Johnson, Wichita, Kan. Her parents, husband, one son (Alvin Johnson), a son-in-law (Elmer Yost), two brothers and one sister preceded her in death.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, Clarence E. of Weatherford; two daughters, Mrs. Edwin Schmidt of Clinton and Mrs. Alfred Vogt of Corn; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one brother and four sisters.
