HELENA JOHNSON

Helena Buller Johnson was born at Paulsheim, South Russia, Feb. 29, 1860 and died at 12:10 a. m. May 20, 1948, at Bethesda hospital, Goessel, Kansas. She attained the age of 88 years two months and 20 days.

She spent her childhood years in Russia during which time she attended the public schools. At the age of 14 she came to America with the family and they made their home not far from Buhler, Kansas. With the exception of seven in California, she spent all her years in the Buhler community.

In 1879 she was baptized upon confession of her faith by Elder Dietrich Gaeddert and became a member of the Hoffnungsau church.

On June 11, 1884, she was united in marriage with W. W. Johnson, who passed away March 13, 1925.

Six children were born to this union. Two of them preceded her in death, one in infancy and her son, Will B. Johnson, in 1942.

About three years ago she became almost totally blind and unable to walk. She endured her affliction without complaint and always retained her faith and trust in God. In her hours of solitude she would quote Scripture passages, or familiar hymns. Her favorite hymn was "As geht mach Haus zum Vater Haus," She was always appreciative of visits by friends. Especially did she appreciate the loving care given to her by her daughter Sara.

Surviving her are two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Frank Regier, Moundridge, Mrs. John Voth and John Buller of Buhler; four children, Mrs. P. B. Froese, P. B. Johnson, Sara of Buhler, and H. B. Johnson of Escondido, California; seven grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
