Well-Known Indiana Minister Died
IRA S. JOHNS SERVED CLINTON FRAME CHURCH FOR 32 YEARS
Goshen, Ind. — Rev. Ira S. Johns, well-known minister of the Clinton Frame Mennonite Church near here, died June 27 at his home on Route 4, Goshen, after a year's illness. He reached the age of 76.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at the Clinton Frame Church, with Vernon Bontreger, O. S. Hostetler and D. A. Yoder officiating.
Bro. Johns, a native of Elkhart County, was ordained a deacon in the Clintno Frame Church on July 8, 1909, and was ordained to the ministry April 27, 1923. He was active in the work of the Indiana-Michigan Mennonite Conference and the (Old) Mennonite General Conference, serving on the Mennonite Board of Education for a number of years. He also was a member of the Mennonite Historical Society.
Surviving are his wife, the former Elizabeth Rickert; two minister sons, Daniel Johns of Conneaut Lake, Pa. and Galen Johns of Benton; six daughters; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. L. S. Pletcher of Middlebury; and one brother, Rev. O. N. Johns of Louisville, O.
