SARA SCHROEDER JANZEN

“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints”

It has pleased the Lord to remove from this life and out of our midst our dear mother, Sara Schroeder Janzen. The daughter of Johann and Sara Unruh Schroeder, she was born Nov. 12, 1878 in Marion County, Kansas. She departed from this life June 28, 1963, reaching the age of 84 years, seven months and 16 days.

On May 29, 1898 she was baptized upon confession of her faith in Jesus Christ by Rev. Peter Balzer and became a member of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church. Later, at her marriage, she transferred her membership to the Tabor Mennonite Church where she remained a faithful member until her death.

On Nov. 10, 1910 she was united in marriage with our father, John P. Janzen. In our home we were nine children, six daughters and three sons. [duplicate phrases gether on Dec. 4,1932 father was tak- / daughter as a child] For 22 years father and mother shared their life togother [sic]. On Dec. 4, 1932 father was taken to his heavenly home. Also preceding mother in death was another daughter Eva (Mrs. Arnold Goertzen), one daughter-in-law Martha (Mrs. Geo. Janzen), three sons-in-law Will Reimer, Ernest Pankratz and John F. Schmidt.

Our parents were engaged in farming in Marion County. After father's death, mother remained on the home place, making her home with her daughter and son-in-law the Paul Hieberts.

She continued to help in the home with those tasks she could do until she suffered a fractured hip in a fall two years ago. From that time her strength declined and she was increasingly more confined.

She leaves to remember her life two sons, Ben Janzen and wife Elizabeth of Hesston, and George Janzen and wife Agnes, Hillsboro; four dauhters [sic], Helena (Mrs. John F. Schmidt) of Newton, Justina and husband, D. D. Unruh of Hillsboro, Sara and husband Paul Hiebert of rural Newton, and Ruth and husband Jake Ratzlaff of Hillsboro; one son-in-law Arnold E. Goertzen and wife Agnes, Peabody; 34 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
