DANIEL JACOB JANZEN

Daniel Jacob Janzen of Chilliwack, B.C. passed away Sept. 15. He was born June 29, 1966 to Erwin and Leona Janzen in Pouce Coupe, B.C. Shortly afterwards, the family moved to Chilliwack. They enjoyed a country lifestyle and summers on a farm near Fort St. John, B.C. He loved dirt biking, water and snow sports, team sports, pool and chess. He had a passion for living and a taste for the daring. He challenged life, challenged people to think and often challenged authority. He is also remembered as generous, thoughtful, compassionate and loving. He respected intelligence and had little tolerance for sloppy thinking. He graduated from Sardis Senior Secondary School, attended Capernwray in Texas for a semester and then studied economics at Fraser Valley College and Simon Fraser University. In fall, 1989 a brain tumour was discovered. He maintained above-average grades despite radiation and chemotherapy treatments and enlivened classes with his keen sense of humour and quick wit in debate. Although he did not complete his final semester, his degree was awarded posthumously. A memorial scholarship fund has been established. He had attended Sardis Community Church from its beginning in 1975. He accepted himself as one of God's children, recognized God as a supreme and moving force in his life and was unreasonably at peace with his destiny. He is mourned by his parents, sister Cheryl Peters and brothers Douglas and David. The funeral was Sept. 20 in Sardis Community Church, with Murray Phillips ministering.
