Youth Loses Life In Highway Crash, Five Injured

TRAGEDY STRIKES MINNESOTA FAMILY ON CHRISTMAS TRIP

Mountain Lake, Minn. — Five members of the Theodore Janzen family of this community were injured and a son, Robert 21, lost his life in a holiday tragedy near Gallup, New Mexico on Sunday afternoon Dec. 19.

The Janzens were en route to Reedley, Calif., to visit Mr. Janzen’s mother, Mrs. Cornelius Janzen, and other relatives when the accident occurred. Their car was hit by a truck, according to word received here.

The injured, as reported from Gallup, were: Mr. Janzen, punctured lung and fractured jaw; Mrs. Janzen, broken leg and facial cuts; Clayton, 17, in critical condition from fractured skull; Doris Janzen, 18, broken leg; and Carol Ruth Janzen, 13, shock and bruises.

Funeral services for Robert Janzen were tentatively set for Sunday, Dec. 26, at the Bethel Mennonite church here. He was a member of the Bethel church and took active part in the youth organizations. Surviving him in addition to the family members mentioned above are a sister, Mrs. Virgil Bartel, and a brother, Roger Janzen, a member of the voluntary service unit at Gulfport, Miss.

DOUBLE FUNERAL FOR BROTHERS WHO DIED IN HOLIDAY TRAGEDY

Mountain Lake, Minn. — A large congregation of relatives and friends attended double funeral services at the Bethel Mennonite church here on Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 29, for Robert and Clayton Janzen, brothers who were fatally injured in the auto accident involving the Theodore Janzen family near Gallup, N. M. ten days earlier. Rev. Erland Waltner was in charge of the services.

Clayton, 17, regained consciousness several days after the accident, but joined his older brother in death on Friday, Dec. 24.

The parents and a daughter Doris, 18, were also injured in the accident and were unable to return here for the funeral.
