KATHERINE FLAMING JANZEN

Katherine Janzen, daughter of Abraham and Susana [sic Susanna] Penner Flaming, was born on June 27, 1900, near Hillsboro, Kan. She died at the Medford, Okla., Nursing Home on Oct.29, 1964.

In 1902 her parents moved to Hitchcock, Okla. A year later her parent s proved an Indian claim near Hydro, Okla. and in February of 1908 they established their home near Corn, Okla. In January of 1913 her parents settled on a farm near Medford.

Katherine was baptized by Rev. John Lichti on May 20, 1918, and became a member of the Medford Mennonite Church.

She was united in marriage to Frank Janzen on Sept. 20, 1921. To this union a daughter and a son were born.

On Jan.17, 1955, Katherine was stricken with a severe stroke and was hospitalized for several weeks. After returning to her home she was a bed patient for several months, later entering a nursing home in Enid, Okla. There she was able to be in a wheel chair part of the time. In May of this year she fell, breaking her hip, and was again hospitalized at Enid, for several weeks. While there she had another stroke and was a bed patient for several months at the Meadowed Nursing Home. Katherine was lovingly cared for by her daughter, son, and the staff of the nursing home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and two brothers.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Mildred) Honeyman of Medford; one son, Melvin Janzen, of Caldwell; one grandson, Jeffrey Janzen of Caldwell; two brothers, Herman Flaming of Medford and Jake Flaming of Caldwell; four sisters, Mrs. Henry Unruh of Medford, Mrs. Henry Voth of Buhler, Kan., Mrs. Abe Goossen, of Colby, Kan., and Mrs. Marvin Loewen of San Luis Obispo, Calif.

The memorial service was held in the Methodist Church of Medford, with Rev. Ben Walker officiating. Burial was in Rosemound Cemetery, Medford.
