— Funeral services were held at the Tabor Mennonite church Sunday afternoon for Dietrich Janzen, 69, who passed away suddenly Wednesday morning, Nov. 14, at his home north of Walton. Survivors include his wife, two sons and two daughters, Waldo R. Janzen of Omaha, Neb., Erna Janzen, nurse at Bethesda hospital, Goessel, Bernice of La Junta, Colo. and Orlin of the home, as well as four grandchildren, his mother, three brothers and two sisters.

DIETRICH JANZEN

Dietrich Janzen, son of Jacob P. and Elizabeth (Reimer) Janzen was born Feb. 9, 1892, in Marion county, near Goessel, Kans.

On May 26, 1912, he was baptized upon the confession of his faith in the Lord Jesus as his personal Saviour by Elder Heinrich Banman and received into the fellowship of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite church as a member. After his marriage he transferred his membership to the Tabor Mennonite church where he remained a faithful member until his death

He was united in holy matrimony to Lena Schmidt on Oct. 26, 1916, and by God's grace they were permitted to celebrate their silver wedding anniversary 10 years ago. To this union were born two sons and two daughters.

On Nov. 14, 1951, at 6:45 in the morning he passed on to his heavenly reward due to a heart attack. Although we knew that his passing could be expected any time, yet it came unexpectedly. He had been under medical care for three years for high blood pressure. He had had a light attack a little over a year ago and a few months later a light stroke, so that we were warned and therefore this time which the Lord so graciously granted us, was a period of preparation for our father and us for his final departure.

Although the day before his death he worked around the farm, early Wednesday morning he developed a severe pain in his chest. The doctor was called to the home but in less than an hour he passed beyond all human help and from the cares of this world. We know that God’s ways are the best ways and are assured that father is now in glory with Him.

One of the songs which he frequently sang and we as small children remember was “There’s a Land Beyond the River.” Lately, when he heard it over the radio he mentioned to mother that this was his song.

He leaves to mourn his sudden passing his wife, son Waldo and daughter-in-law Irene and four grandchildren of Omaha, Nebr., daughters Erna of Goessel, Kans. and Bernice of La Junta, Colo., and son Orlin of the home; his aged mother; three brothers and two sisters and a host of other relatives and friends. His father and one sister preceded him in death.
