text of obituary:
D. C. Janzen, a pioneer settler in this community, succumbed to an illness dating from November of last year, on Sunday at noon, Jan. 20. Funeral services were held from the Bethel Church Wednesday afternoon, amid a large gathering of friends and sympathizers.
The deceased was born in the village of Franztahl, South Russia, in 1864, and came to this country with his parents thirteen years later. The family made its home on a farm near the east edge of the village. in 1894 he was received into the Bethel Church, and during the same year he was married to Miss Aganetha Goertzen. Eight children were born to this union, three daughters and five sons. Of these one son and one daughter have preceded their father into the Great Unknown. After residing on a farm north of Mountain Lake for five years, in 1900 the home was established on the parental farm, which is still their home.
For years, Mr. Janzen had been troubled with rupture, but his trouble was never serious, until last November, when complications originating from a severe cold , set in. He was taken seriously ill by bronchitis and the flue. At times, it seemed as though he would recover, but a relapse came on Saturday, and the next day he breathed his last. – Observer.
