CORNELIUS JANZEN

Cornelius Janzen, son of Heinrich and Kathrina (Gosen) Janzen, was born near Inman, Kansas on July 29, 1879, and passed away Oct. 21, 1961, at the age of 82 years, two months and 22 days.

He was one of 12 children who shared the hardships of the early pioneer days in helping his parents eke out a meager living. He received only a few years of formal schooling.

On Sept. 8, 1901, he was baptized and taken into the Medford Mennonite Church. He remained a faithful member until his death.

On Nov. 26, 1903, he was united in marriage to Anna Reimer. They settled in western Kansas, where they resided until 1914, when they moved to a farm one-half mile north of Medford, Okla. In 1943 they moved to Medford.

Besides farming, Mr. Janzen served as Street Commissioner for the City of Medford, a position he held for 25 years.

Because of his love and devotion to Christ, his Savior, he loved to sing. His love forchildren was as great as his love for song. His pleasant personality won him many friends.

He is survived by his widow Anna, four daughters, Martha Stockton of Blackwell, Okla., Bertha Orton of Pawhuska, Okla., Anna Pjesky of Goltry, Okla. and Wilma Eddings of Bloomington, Ill.; three sons, Reuben Janzen of Wichita, Kansas, Jakie Janzen of Shafter, Calif. and Paul Janzen of Fort Smith, Ark.; 15 grandchildren and thee great-granchildren; two sisters, Mrs. George Regier of Inola, Okla. and Mrs. Eva Janzen of Newton, Kansas; and three brothers, J. G. Janzen of Medford, Abe Janzen of Enid, and Henry Janzen of Buhler, Kan.
