MRS. HELEN JANTZEN

Mrs. Helen Jantzen was born in Oct. 4, 1878. Her parents were Gerhard and Marie Ensz, nee Matthies. In 1884 she came with her parents to America and first settled in the Newton, Kan. area. She was baptized on June 2, 1895 by Rev. Jacob Toews, and became a member of the First Mennonite Church in Newton.

On May 26, 1898 she was married to Alexander Jantzen of Plymouth, Neb. at which time she transferred her membership to the First Mennonite Church in Beatrice, Neb. Life's pathway was shared together for 36 years. To this union were born three sons and five daughters. On April 17, 1934 our father was fatally injured.

In 1954 mother had the misfortune of breaking her hip, and a half year later recovered from another serious illness. After that she enjoyed fairly good health. This year, on July 6, she entered the Mennonite Hospital and on July 18 the Lord called her home to her reward at the age of 84 years.

Surviving are three sons, Edward and wife Katie, Gerhard and wife Helen, and Herbert; five daughters, Marie and husband Gustav Jantzen, Mrs. Frieda Epp, Ellla and husband H. W. Penner, Margaret and husband Albert Claassen, Bertha and husband Alfred Penner; 17 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bernard and Gustav Ensz; and three sisters, Mrs. Cornelius (Anna) Jantzen, Mrs. John B. (Justine) Jantzen, and Mrs. A. M. (Minnie) Epp.

She was always very interested in her family and showed much concern for her children and grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, one son-in-law, one granddaughter, three brothers, and four sisters.
