MRS. KATIE JANTZ

Katie Jantz, daughter of Andrew and Susanna (Dirks) Wadel, was born in Marion County, Kansas on Oct 4, 1891, and passed away in her home in Greensburg, Kans., on Dec 4, 1962. She reached the age of 71 years and two months.

On Dec 5, 1910, she was married to Solomon B. Jantz of Tampa, Kan. In 1914 they moved to Greensburg and she lived in Kiowa County the remainder of her life.

In December of 1960 our parents had the happy privilege of observing their 50th wedding anniversary, at which all of their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were able to be present. The presence of God was experienced in an unusual way on this day.

As a young mother she realized her need for a personal faith in Jesus Christ, and together with her husband joined the General Conference Mennonite Church of rural Greensburg. Later they transferred their membership to the Calvary Mennonite Church of which she was a member at the time of her death.

Mother loved her church and often expressed concerns, especially shortly before her death. In her quiet way, her contributions were made through prayer and personal admonition.

She was the happiest when she could be doing things for others. This was expressed especially in her hospitality. She felt especially near to God in her gardening. Even much of her pleasure in this was being able to share the fruits of her labors with others.

Our parents were blessed with nine children. Surviving her are her husband and all of the children. Bernice (Mrs. Frank Schmidt) of Greensburg. Rev. Wesley Jantz of Hesston, Kan., Alice (Mrs. Ross Wayne) of Wichita, Kan., Ben of Greensburg, Pauline (Mrs. Allen Diller) and Doris (Mrs. Ivan Diller), both of Hesston, Rev. Wallace Jantz of Perryton, Texas, Dewayne of Haviland, Kan., and Melvin of Denver, Colo,; 23 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are one sister, Mrs. John Jantz of Winton, Calif.; one brother, Harry Wadel of Berryville, Ark.; a step-mother, Mrs. Abe Jantz; four half-brothers, Lester, Andy, Jesse, and Frank Wadel, all of Missouri.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two sisters, Della, (Mrs. Noah Unruh), and Edith (Mrs. Fred Schmidt); and one brother, Jake Wadel.

Funeral services were conducted on Dec 7, 1962, at the Calvary Mennonite Church of Greensburg. Officiating ministers were Rev. E. M. Yost of Denver, Colo. and Rev. H. J. King of Greensburg. Interment was made in Fairview Cemetery at Greensburg.
