CORNELIUS C. JANTZ

Funeral services for C. C. Jantz were held at the North Star Mennonite Church, Drake, Sask., on April 22 on 2 p.m. with Rev. J. Oglesby officiating. Mr. and Mrs. LaVern Jantz rendered a special number in song.

Honorary pallbearers, who pioneered with him, were Edwin Bartel, August Bartel, Zack Bartel, Joe McFarland, Henry Jantz and Frank Gibney. Burial took place at the Drake cemetery.

He was born March 24, 1884 at Hillsboro, Kan. to Jacob H. and Elizabeth Jantz. He came to Drake, Sask. in March 1906 and filed for a homestead which is still the family home of his son and family.

He was baptized by Rev. N. F. Toews on June 18, 1911.

On Nov. 15, 1911, he was married to Katherina Schroeder. To this union were born a daughter, Grace Rennetta and a son Ellsworth Norman. They shared the hardships and joys of pioneer life for 46 years until the death of Mrs. Jantz on Aug. 14, 1957.

Due to a tractor accident, he was in ill health for the past 10 years. Six years were spent at the Geriatric Center at Melfort, Sask. where he died on April 16, 1969 at the age of 85 years and 23 days. Besides his wife he was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.

He leaves to mourn his passing a daughter Grace Reusser and husband Melvin of Enid, Okla.; a son Ellsworth and wife Doreen of Drake; two brothers, Peter C. of Drake and Dr. Jacob G. of Bedford, Va.; one sister, Mrs. Albert (Elizabeth) Foote of Kansas City, Kan.; four grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He devoted his life to farming as long as his health permitted. He was devoted to his family and had time and patience with each one of us. He has left to his loved ones a rich heritage of high principals [sic] of faith in God and honesty in all his dealings with his fellow man. — Family.
