EARLY-DAY IMMIGRANT FROM POLAND DIES AT STAFFORD, KAN. HOSPITAL

Larned, Kan. — Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Jantz, who was among the early-day Mennonite immigrants to Kansas, were held Sept. 11 at the Bergthal Mennonite Church, Pawnee Rock. She died at Stafford hospital on Sept. 9.

Mrs. Jantz was born in Karlswalde, Poland, on Sept. 18, 1870 and came to Kansas with her parents at an early age. In 1900 she and her husband, Henry Jantz, moved to farm near Pawnee rock. He died in 1947 .

Anna Deckert Jantz was born at Karlswalde, Poland on Sept. 18, 1870 and passed away at the Stafford District Hospital at Stafford, Kan. on Sept. 9, 1964 at the age of 93 years, 11 months and 22 days.

When she was about four years of age she moved with her parents from Poland to Kansas. In 1890 she was married to Henry Jantz. They lived on a farm, first near Dundee and later near Pawnee Rock, Kan.

She was a faithful member of the Bergthal Mennonite Church of Pawnee Rock. In 1940 she and her husband celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Her husband passed away in 1947. Three sons, Harold, Arnold and William, preceded her in death.

She is survived by three sons, Elmer and Adolph of Larned, Kan. and Dan of Detroit, Mich.; three daughters, Mrs. Lena Wickstrom, Mrs. Alice Schreiber, and Viola, all of Larned, Kan.; eight grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren; two half sisters, Mrs. P. H. Unruh of Pawnee Rock, and Mrs. Lorena Kliewer of Great Bend, Kan. She was very much devoted to the interest and welfare of her family.

Funeral services were held at Bergthal Mennonite Church on Sept. 17, 1964 with Rev. Gary Stenson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
