DICK J. ISAAC

Dick J. Isaac, son of Jacob F. and Katharina (nee Friessen [sic Friesen]) Isaac, was born on Sept. 29, 1911 in Meade county, Kansas, where he grew to manhood and receive his schooling.

When he was of mature age, he felt his lost condition and turned to the Lord for help. He repented and received grace and forgiveness of his sin through the blood of the crucified One. He was baptized in August 1930, and accepted as a member into the Mennonite church.

On July 18, 1936, he was united in marriage to Verna Bohling. To this union three children were born, Erma Lee, James Lewayne and Judy Kay. He has shared joy and sorrow with his wife Verna for 17 years, nine months and five days.

His life as father and husband came to a sudden close in a Wichita cafe on April 23, 1954 at 3:30 p.m. due to a heart attack, at the age of 42 years, six months and 25 days. His mother preceded him in death on July 30, 1936, and one brother in July 1910.

Most of the time, the family lived in and around Meade, except the last two years when they moved to Wichita where he accepted a job as a city bus driver. Due to failing health, he could not continue at his job steadily. About 18 months ago he had a heart attack, but continued his work with the bus company off and on.

The last two weeks before his sudden departure he was feeling fairly good, was so calm and friendly, especially the last few days. He went down town to get a cup of coffee and while reaching for it, he nodded his head on the counter and was gone. He always had a smile for everyone, which won him many friends.

He leaves to mourn his departure his beloved wife, Verna; three children; his father and second mother, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob F. Isaac; nine brothers, Henry, Pete, John, Jake, Ben, George, Abe and Levi, and Alvin by father's second marriage; two sisters, Margret, Mrs. W. W. Loewen and Kathryn, Mrs. Dick Classen; five uncles, P. F. Isaac of Meade, John F. Isaac, Dinuba, Calif., H. F. Isaac, A. J. Friesen and John J. Friesen, a [sic unreadable] of Meade; and one aunt, Mrs. J. F. Friesen, Reedley, Calif.

From his wife’s side he leaves his mother-in-law, Mrs. Ida Bohling, three sisters-in-law, Mable, Stella, Mrs. Bill Gray, and Georgia, Mrs. Frank Woodson; two brothers-in-law, Edgar and Victor Bohling.

Services were conducted in the E.M.B. church by Rev. Walter Kirk of Wichita, Kans. Burial was at Grace-Land cemetery. — Rev. and Mrs. Jacob F. Isaac and Family.
