PARENTS INJURED IN EXPLOSION WHICH CLAIMED SON’S LIFE

Meade, Kans. — Funeral services were held here Sunday afternoon, Aug. 24, for Henry L. Isaac, 38, who was killed Friday in an explosion in the basement of the farm home when he tried to light a water heater.

His parents, Mr. and Mr. H. F. Isaac, were in a room above the tank and suffered severe bums. They were reported to be in serious condition at the Meade hospital.

The house was saved from burning by a neighbor, Henry F. Loewen, who used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames in the basement. Dan and Isaac Loewen brought Henry L. Isaac to the hospital here, where his burns proved fatal.

HENRY L. ISAAC

Henry L. Isaac was born Oct. 17, 1913, to Henry F. and Lena Isaac near Meade, Kansas where he grew up and resided until the Lord took him in death on Aug. the age of 38 years, 10 months and five days.

In his youth Henry realized his lost condition and accepted Christ as his personal Saviour. He was baptized upon the confession of his faith and accepted into the Mennonite Church. On April 16, 1944, he was received into the fellowship of the Emmanuel Mennonite church of Meade of which he remained a faithful member until his death.

On May 7, 1936, he was united with Helen L. Classen in holy bonds of matrimony and together they experienced joys and sorrows for 16 years. These were years of blessed and happy service together in spite of sorrows and trials.

Henry’s sincerity as a Christian worker and while following his trade as wood-worker and farmer will long be remembered by those who worked side by side with him. His concern for the lost was revealed in his dealings with, and prayer for them. He was ever a willing worker in the church and community, having served a superintendent of and teacher in the Sunday School for many years. His great interest in children’s work led him to willingly accept responsibilities in daily vacation Bible school and weekly Bible class work. As a member of the male quartet it was his privilege and delight to sing and serve even the Sunday before he passed away.

On Thursday, Aug. 21, at approximately 6:15 p. m., while endeavoring to light the gas water heater for his parents, a terrific gas explosion occurred, the result of which left Henry and his parents severely burned. They were rushed to the Meade District hospital, where they all received the best of care and treatment. Henry, who was most severely burned, passed away quietly the next morning at 3:45 to be with the Lord whom he loved and served.

He leaves to deeply mourn, his early departure, his wife, Helen, his parents, H. F. Isaacs (who are in the hospital), uncles, aunts, cousins, a host of relatives and friends. He will be remembered as a loving husband and son. We will miss him sorely but Godi [sic] who doeth all things well, bids us to commit all things to Him and trust, though we do not understand His leadings.

Funeral services were held Sunday, August 24, 1:30 p. m. at the Fidler Mortuary chapel, and 2:30 at the Emmanuel Mennonite church near Meade. The pastor, Rev. S. H. Epp, officiated assisted by Rev. H. P. Wiebe and Rev. H. R Harms. Interment was made in the Emmanuel Mennonite cemetery.
