ERNEST WALTER HURD

Ernest Walter Hurd was born to Samuel and Kathleen Hurd in Zelma, Sask. on April 12, 1922, the youngest of seven children. In 1926 he moved to Brandon, Man., and in 1940 entered the Royal Canadian Air Force, receiving an honorable discharge after the war in 1945.

He was very active during his lifetime, engaging in different sports and involved in service of children and young people. He was active in the Boy Scouts movement.

In 1947 he moved to Ocean Falls, B.C. Here he met Catherine Bolivar, and they were married on May 18, 1950. This union was blessed with six children: Valerie, twins Ernie and Julie, Alannah, Christine and Darryl, all of whom are still at home.

He accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour in 1961, and was baptized and accepted into the Mennonite Brethren Church at Ocean Falls. He loved his Lord and could say with Paul, "I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ."

The family moved to Kelowna, B .C. in 1968, where Ernie found employment with the Okanagan College. He passed away unexpectedly on January 24.

He leaves to mourn his passing: Catherine, his beloved wife; six children; two brothers, Fred of Prince Edward Island and Lawrence of Brandon, Man.; one sister, Mrs. Kay Manastyr of Winnipeg; his father and mother-in-law, Henry and Leda Bolivar of Oliver, B .C., and some nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
