CAR DRIVEN BY TRUCKER CRASHES INTO ROAD MAINTAINER
Winkler, Man. — George Huebner, 45, Reinland trucker and father of five, was fatally injured at 5:45 p.m. Saturday night, Nov. 6, in a highway accident when the car he operated was in a head-on collison [sic] with a government road maintainer two and one-half miles south of here on the Winkler-Walhalla road. He died in the hospital here less than two hours later.
According to reports the road maintainer came north on the west side of the road when Huebner travelled south on his way to his home in Reinland. Due to the high location of the head-lights on these maintainers motorists find it difficult to estimate distances when approaching them at night. The impact of the collision threw the heavy road machine back four feet and demolished the 1954 car.
Huebner leaves to mourn his loss his widow, Sarah; a son, George, 21; four daughters, Helen, Dorothy, Tena, and Hilda, 17, the youngest.
Funeral services were held at the Mennonite church in Reinland at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11.
