ABRAHAM HUEBERT
Abraham Huebert was born April 23, 1884 in Friedensruh, South Russia, the son of Abraham and Anna Huebert. His father operated a blacksmith shop and farm at Friedensruh. He enjoyed a happy childhood in his parent's home even though he discontinued his education after two years of high school to help his father in the business. His mother possessed a dynamic faith and influenced her son throughout his life.
On June 6, 1907 he entered marriage with Anna Bergen, the Lord blessing their lives with one son and five daughters. Of these, one daughter predeceased their father. He surrendered his life to the Lord in 1923 and from that time became a fruitful person in God's Kingdom. He loved song, music and poetry and directed choirs and wrote a number of poems. He enjoyed visiting neighbouring Russian villages to bring them the gospel in word and song. This visitation to Russians and Ukrainians he continued extensively after he came to America.
He was able to migrate to Canada in 1930 as part of the group who streamed to Moscow and were then rescued out of Russia by the German government. The family came to Leamington where they lived to the present and from where Mr. Huebert carried on his ministry. It was only this spring that he and his wife moved to the Leamington Mennonite Home for the Aged where they were not only richly blessed but became a blessing. Two weeks prior to his death he took seriously ill and passed away, September 2, at the age of 8l.
He is survived by his wife Anna; four daughters: Mrs. Isaac (Anna) Tiessen of Toronto, Mrs. Jacob (Margaret) Pankratz of Virgil, Marie Huebert of Leamington, and Mrs. Luise Buller of Riverside; a son Abram of Vineland and 12 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
