DEATH CALLS CLOSE ADVISER TO PRES. WILSON
Col. E. Mandell House, the man who was credited with having held in his confidence the secrets of international intrigue and who may have written great portions of the League of nations document, died last week at New York. He became known to the world at large as confidential adviser to the late Woodrow Wilson. His death came at seventy-nine after a long illness, in the quiet old town house to which he had retired in sorrow after his break with Wilson, a break which ended a friendship without parallel in American politics.
Shy all his life — in possession tho he was of almost as many great state secrets of the World War period as any President, minister or King — House had said many times that he wanted no "fuss or feathers" when he was gone.
