Tampico, Ill. Farmer Suffocation Victim

Tampico, Ill. — Funeral Services were held at the Fairfield Amish Mennonite Church on Sunday, March 6, for Andrew Hostetler, 38-year-old farmer of this community who died in an elevator accident March 3.

While helping remove corn from a 40 to 50 foot tall bin at Hahnaman Elevator, Mr. Hostetler went in search of a tool to dislodge moist corn which had frozen in the bin. In the meantime, other workers succeeded in removing some corn from the bin and it began flowing out the bottom normally.

Upon Mr. Hostetler's return about 3 p.m. he went to the top of the bin to resume work, unaware that corn was being removed at the bottom. The grain apparently gave way under him, causing death by suffocation.
