MRS. AMANDA HOSTETLER

Mrs. Amanda Hostetler, youngest daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. J. S. Hirschler, was born in Hillsboro, Kans., on May 25, 1886, and departed this life in Upland, Calif. on Jan. 14, 1955, at the age of 68 years.

In her youth she was baptized by her father and became a member of the Mennonite church at Hillsboro. When she with her parents came to Upland 48 years ago she transferred her membership by letter to the First Mennonite church here and remained a faithful member throughout her life.

Love came into her young life only to be thwarted by tragedy when her fiancé was accidentally electrocuted on the eve of their marriage. That was a time when it was difficult to see God’s will. In later life she was married to Arnold Hostetler of Upland, who preceded her in death in 1949.

A year ago she submitted to major abdominal surgery. The condition was found to be cancerous and almost hopeless from the beginning. She accepted this with great fortitude, resigned to the will of God.

On Jan. 14, after a year of much suffering, she answered her Master’s call. “It is enough, my child, come home,” and went to her heavenly home where he parents, two sisters and two brothers were awaiting her.

Surviving are three brothers, Arnold of the Goessel Home for the Aged in Kansas, Dan of Lawrence, Kans., and Otto Hirschler of Los Angeles, Calif., he being the one to be able to attend her funeral. Nieces and nephews and other relatives besides many friends are also left to mourn her passing.

Funeral services were conducted at her church by Rev. Paul Goering.

Requested songs were sung by the congregation. The large attendance and many floral offerings were evidence of the high esteem in which the departed was held. Interment was made in Bellvue cemetery.
