● Clarence A. Horst, 68, of Hesston, a retired minister in the Mennonite Church, died Nov. 21 at Bethel Deaconess Hospital in Newton. Graveside services and burial were held at the East Lawn Cemetery in Hesston on Nov. 23. A memorial service followed that evening at the Hesston Mennonite Church with Jerry Quiring and Paul Friesen co-officiating. He was born at Big Spring, Md., on June 4, 1914 to Mr. and Mrs. Abram S. Horst. On June 4, 1937 he married Ida Eschleman at Harrisonburg, Va. They moved to Hesston in 1963. After serving a number of Mennonite churches in Virginia, Maryland, Arkansas, Idaho and Kansas. Surviving with his wife are two sons, Donald of Gaborone, Botswana, Southern Africa, and Roy of Elkhart, Ind.; two daughters, Ruby (Mrs. Tom) Sawin of Hesston and Twila (Mrs. Rick) Van Rossun of Newton; two brothers, Preston of Hyattsville, Md., and Karl of Greencastle, Pa.; three sisters, Mrs. Virginia Martin of Waynesboro, Pa., Mrs. Kathryn Christ of Mt. Joy, Pa., and Beulah Horst of Hagerstown, Md.; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, three sisters and one grandson.
