Swiss Cheese Maker Passed Away
D. N. HORST, BAREVILLE, PA. WAS WIDELY KNOWN IN EASTERN PENNSYLVANIA
Bareville, Pa. — D. N. Horst, Lancaster County Swiss Cheese man who was widely known throughout the lower counties here, passed away Wednesday night, March10. He was found the following morning by his daughter, Lydia, with whom he made his home. Just the day previous he had received a large shipment of Swiss cheese from Ohio and apparently was well as usual when he retired for the night.
In his business relations, Bro. Horst became widely known throughout the counties of Berks, Montgomery, Bucks, and Chester, as well as his own county of Lancaster. He was especially well-known among the various plain sects of the aforementioned counties, and also in Lebanon county. He was a plain man himself, being a member of the Old Order Mennonite church, of the German element. He was 66 years old.
The deceased had been a widower for many years and had made his home with his youngest daughter and her husband in the village of Bareville, nine miles east of Lancaster. Four other daughters, all married, also survive, as does a son, unmarried, who is the youngest of the family. Jonas Horst of Maugansville, Md. is a brother. — Jonathan Fisher.
