Survivor of Tornado Becomes County's 45th Traffic Fatality

Goshen, Ind. — Elkhart County's toll of deaths in traffic accidents for 1966 rose to 455 with the death of Noah J. Hooley, 79, of rural Shipshewana in Goshen General Hospital on Jan. 7.

An autopsy indicated that death was due to injuries sustained in a two-car crash in Indiana 13 south of Middlebury Dec. 14, 1966. The car driven by Mr. Hooley skidded on the slippery pavement during a snowstorm and collided with an oncoming vehicle.

In 1965 one of the Palm Sunday tornadoes demolished the Hooley home seriously injuring both Mr. and Mrs. Hooley. He recovered, but his wife Lois died about four months later.
