Mrs. Elsie Pearl Hooley was born May 20, 1897 at Hubbard, Ore. to the late John L. and Fannie Yoder Zook, and passed away Sept. 21 at the Silverton Hospital following a short illness, at the age of 65 years, four months and one day. She died quietly as a result of a coronary thrombosis.

She moved with her parents at the age of six months to Missouri. When she was 10 months old, her mother passed away. She was adopted into the Levi Zook family at Harrisonville, Mo. She lived there until 18 years of age, when she moved to Belleville, Pa. to live with her father, who had remarried. She attended one year of high school at Hesston Academy.

At the Allensville Mennonite Church, Belleville, Pa., she was untied in marriage to Alvin J. Hooley on July 21, 1921. The couple returned to Oregon to make their home.

Sister Hooley became a Christian as a young woman and was baptized upon confession of faith at the Sycamore Grove Mennonite Church in Missouri. She transferred her membership to the Allensville Church, Belleville, Pa., and later to the Zion Church, Hubbard, Ore., of which she was a faithful member at the time of her death.

Surviving are her husband, two sons, Lloyd of Hubbard and Ray of Creswell; two daughters, Bernice (Mrs. Earl) Kennel of Albany and Faye (Mrs. Cecil) Byers of Tepic, Mexico; 15 grandchildren, two foster brothers and three foster sisters, two half sisters, and many relatives and friends. One son, Donald, passed away in Germany in 1953 while serving as a missionary relief worker.

The funeral service was held at the Zion Mennonite Church on Sept. 25. Rev. John Lederach and C. I. Kropf were the officiating ministers. Interment was in the Zion Mennonite cemetery.
