Elmo R. Hooley, son of David J. and Ella (Horst) Hooley, was born on May 15, 1922 near North Lawrence, Ohio. He passed away suddenly at his home in Orrville, O. on July 7, 1964 at the age of 42 years, one month and 22 days.

He graduated from Washington High School in Massillon, Ohio in 1940 and from the Cleveland College of Mortuary Science in 1947. He had been associated with the H. C. Auble and Son Funeral Home since 1941. After purchasing business interest from the late H. C. Auble in 1949, the firm became known as Auble-Hooley Funeral Home. Ten years later a new funeral home was built on East Oak Street, Orrville.

He was active in community affairs, being a member of the Orrville Fire Department, the Wayne-Holmes Fire Dept. Association, the Exchange Club, Chamber of Commerce, and past president of the Wayne County Funeral Directors Association.

He was likewise active in church life, serving for the past 11 years as chorister at the Orrville Mennonite Church. He and his wife became members of this congregation in 1953. Previously he had been a member of the Pleasant View Mennonite Church, having made his decision for Christ at the age of 11. He sang with the Harmonaires Quartet, which is heard regularly over the “Calvary Hour” and the “Let There Be Light” radio programs. In addition he sang with the Community Chorus and served on the staff of the Calvary Hour. His musical contribution and earnest service to the church and community will be greatly missed.

On June 16, 1950 he was united in marriage to Melinda Jost. Their home was blessed with three daughters: Ruth, Rosemary Kay, and Renee Louise. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Ella Hooley, a brother Clarence, and a sister Rhea, all of North Lawrence. A sister, Lucille, died at the age of four.

Memorial services were held at the Orrville Mennonite Church on July 10, 1964 with pastor J. Lester Graybill, Bill and Bob Detweiler in charge. Interment was made at the Pleasant View Cemetery near North Lawrence, ohio.

Funeral Director Dies At Orrville, Ohio

Orrville, Ohio. — Funeral services for Elmo R. Hooley, 42, well-known funeral director here, were held July 10 at the Orrville Mennonite Church, of which he was a member. He suffered a fatal heat attack June 7 at his home.

Mr. Hooley became associated with the H. C. Auble Funeral Home here in 1941. In 1949 he purchased the interest of the late Mr. Auble and it became known as the Auble-Hooley Funeral Home. A new building was erected in 1959.

Mr. Hooley was active in civic affairs and in the Orrville Mennontie Church, where he served as song leader. He was a member of the Harmonnaires Quartet,heard on "The Calvary Hour" and "Let Their [sic] Be Light" radio broadcasts.

ELMO R. HOOLEY

Elmo R. Hooley, son of David J. and Ella (Horst) Hooley, was born on May 15, 1922 near North Lawrence, Ohio. He passed away suddenly at his home in Orrville, O. on July 7, 1964 at the age of 42 years, one month and 22 days.
