text of obituary:
ORA HOOLEY
Ora, son of Leo U. and Emily (Miller) Hooley, was born in Iowa County, Iowa, October 2, 1900, and died September 19, 1946, at the Mahaska hospital in Oskaloosa at the age of 45 years, 11 months, 17 days.
He was married to Geneva Swartzendruber on November 20, 1921, who survives. Three children were born to this union, James 11, Jane five, and Phyllis Joann, who preceded him in death February 23, 1934, at the age of four years. His father and mother also preceded him in death.
Surviving are two sisters, Naomi, wife of W. H. Slaubaugh, of Wellman; Nettie, wife of Omer J. Yoder of Parnell; four nieces, three nephews, eight uncles, five aunts and many other relatives and friends.
His entire life was lived in Iowa county, for the past 15 years on the farm where he was born.
He had been failing in health since March, suffering from malignant hypertension. His condition became worse and on September 9 he was confined to the Mahaska hospital. Everything was done that medical skill and loving hands could do, but of no avail.
He was a member of the Franklin Methodist church, serving in various capacities. He was resigned to the will of God, and expressed his readiness to go to be the Lord. His last words to his children and loved ones was to trust in God and prepare to meet him in heaven. After he had made his funeral arrangements he had a vision, when he saw a beautiful light, and heard the voice of Phyllis his deceased daughter, calling to him. Ora was a devoted husband and father, and a good neighbor. He will be greatly missed in the home, the church and community, but we humbly bow to Him who doeth all things well and say, "Thy will be done."
Funeral services were conducted at the Wellman Methodist church Saturday, September 21, conducted by Rev. Sidney Sterrett and Rev. Paul Arms. A male quartet composed of John and Ed. Hershberger, Orie Keiser and Clark Brenneman sang. Mrs. Edwin Yoder was pianist. Burial was at the West Union cemetery.
