Truck Driver Killed On Missouri Highway

Goshen, Ind. — Maurice E. Hooley, 29, a native of the Middlebury community, was one of two persons killed in a highway crash on US-61 south of Sikeston, Mo. on June 4.

Mr. Hooley, an employee of Driftwood Homes in Elkhart, was returning after delivering camping trailers in Arkansas when a car came onto the highway in front of his pick-up truck. The two vehicles collided, and then a cattle truck smashed into the cab of the pick-up. Fire broke out, and Mr. Hooley was badly burned. The woman driver of the auto was also killed and the other truck driver critically hurt.

Mr. Hooley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Hooley of Middlebury, resided at Osceola, ind. He was married to Rosie Green of Hicksville, O. in November 1964. Surviving in addition to the parentis are his widow, an expectant mother; two sons, 8 and 7 years old; two stepchildren, 4 and 2; five brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services were held Sunday at the Forks Mennonite Church near Middlebury, with Rev. Sylvester Haarer in charge.
