He was active in the ministry for 40 years, from 1911 to 1951, and also engaged in farming. He served as a trustee of the Bloomfield School for a number of terms, and for many years was on the board of the Mennonite Collegiate Institute, Gretna. |

Retired Minister Dies at Age 95
Altona, Manitoba. — Rev. John J. Hooge, 95, retired minister of the Bergthaler Mennonite Church, died Jan. 10 at the Salem Home for Aged in Winkler where he had received care since suffering a stroke two years ago.
Born in the Molotschna area of South Russia in 1874, he was brought to Canada the following year by his family, who settled on a farm west of Winkler. He was active in the ministry for 40 years, from 1911 to 1951, and also engaged in farming. He served as a trustee of the Bloomfield School for a number of terms, and for many years was on the board of the Mennonite Collegiate Institute, Gretna.
The funeral was held at the Plum Coulee Bergthaler Church on Jan. 14.
