Delft, Minn. Farmer Killed While Working In Drainage Ditch

Mt. Lake, Minn. — A drainage ditch cave-in claimed the life of Abram Hooge, 65, well-known farmer of the Delft community and lay worker of the Mennonite Brethren Church on Monday, July 19.

Funeral services were conducted July 22 at the Carson M. B. Church, with Rev. Loyal Martin and Rev. J. A. Froese officiating.

Mr. Hooge was helping with the excavation of the ditch near his farm in Dale Township when a large section of earth suddenly caved in, pinning him to a culvert. He died instantly of a crushed chest.

A lifelong resident of Dale Township, he and his wife had retired from the farm and moved to Delft last March. Since then the farm had been occupied by his son Vern Hodge and family.

In addition to his active service in the Carson congregation, Mr. Hooge was chairman of the board of trustees of the Central District M. B. Conference.
