MISS ELISE HOLLY WAS LONGTIME MEMBER OF TRENTON, O. CHURCH

Hamilton, Ohio. — On Oct 2, only a little over one day after her 101st birthday, Miss Elise Holly of 616 Dayton street passed to her eternal reward at Mercy hospital here.

Funeral services were held on Thursday at the Trenton Mennonite church, where she had been a member since her youth. Her pastor, Rev. J. E. Amstutz officiated and burial was made in the Mennonite cemetery.

Miss Holly, in falling health since midsummer, had been hospitalized on Sept. 26 but on her birthday Sept. 30 was still able to sit up for a brief celebration arranged by the nurses in her honor.

She was born on Sept. 30, 1849, on the “Holly Farm” near Monroe, the daughter of Christian and Helena Iutzi Holly. The parents were in a small group of Mennonites who migrated to this part of Ohio from Germany in 1832.

Educated in the country schools and Lebanon college, she early took an active interest in community and church affairs. In 1920 she moved from the farm to Trenton, and later kept house in Hamilton for her brother, Peter Holly, prominent attorney. She was active in the missionary society of the Trenton church, and annually entertained the society in her home until this year.

Blessed with a keen mentality, she maintained her interest in community and world affairs until the last. A year ago she held open house for 150 guests on her 100th birthday.

Survivors include a niece, several nephews, and a large circle of relatives and friends.
