FRANK HOLDEMAN

Frank Holdeman, son of David S. and Helena (Kime) Holdeman, was born July 11, 1874, in McPherson county near Hesston, Kansas, and departed this life January 9, 1947, at the age of 72 years, five months , and 28 days. He was born and lived his entire life on the farm where he passed away.

He became convicted of his sins, found Christ as his Savior, and was baptized and became a member of the Church of God in Christ Mennonite on May 6, 1906. He was a faithful member until death.

He was united in marriage to Emma Overholt on June 3, 1906, with whom he shared joys and sorrows for about 12 years. To this union were born six sons and three daughters. She went to her reward June 23, 1918.

On August 8, 1920, he was united in marriage to Fanny Overholt, with whom he shared joys and sorrows for 26 years. to this union were born two daughters.

He was a loving husband, a kind father, and a good neighbor. His home was a welcome place for everyone. He took his nephew, John Holdeman, into his home and was a father to him for a number of years. He was deeply interested in his children and grandchildren, and together they shared many happy hours which will not be forgotten.

Father’s health began failing about three years ago. Medical aid was sought and at times he rallied some, but slowly he continued to decline, growing weaker and weaker until the end. Death was caused by cancer of the stomach.

During the time of his sickness, he took his refuge in the Lord, confessing his failings, and making a special preparation for eternity. He left us with the full assurance that he was going hone to be with his Savior.

He leaves his bereaved wife; six sons and five daughters, Noah of Hesston, Lee of Newton, Archie of Moundridge, Adin and Wilford of Hesston, Willard of Halstead, Sylvia, Dorothy and Nina of the home, Mrs. Denton (Emma) Burns of Newton and Mrs. Vernard (Twila) Unruh of Canton; two sons-in-law, six daughters-in-law, 30 grandchildren; one brother, Rev. Conard Holdeman, and two sisters, Mrs. Saloma Steiner and Mrs. Susana Pletcher; also a host of relatives and friends.

One grandchild preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, Jan. 12, at 2:30 p. m. at the Meridian church. Rev. Milferd Wenger and Rev. Ervin Harms had charge of the services.

Pallbearers were Joe Holdeman, Jessie Loucks, Dan Jantz, A. L. Yost, Conrad Wenger, and Noah Wiggers.

He was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.

Peacefully sleeping, resting at last
In that beautiful city, his trials are past;
In silence he suffered, in patience he bore,
Till God called him home to suffer no more.
The room is quiet, all is still,
The place is vacant, ‘Tis God’s will;
So long you waited for your rest,
Our blessed Lord knows what is best.
