Ezra K. Holdeman

Ezra K. Holdeman, son of Daniel and Helen Holdeman, was born in McPherson Co., Kans., September 13, 1886. He passed away at his home in Greensburg, Kans., June 24, 1940, at the age of 53 years.

On October 17, 1909, he was married to Anna Jantz of Greensburg, Kans. To this union seven children were born: Vesta, Cleda, Alma, Menno, Marjorie, Ivan and Paul. His illness was prolonged over a period of several years. the last three months he was bedfast. He endured his affliction with much patience and was very reluctant in making himself a burden to others.

At about the age of 18 years, he heeded the call of the Spirit and through faith in Christ as Savior he made his peace with God. He united with the Meridian Mennonite church near Hesston, Kansas, and remained a member of that church until he moved to Greensburg. Here he united with the Calvary Mennonite church.

Bro. Holdeman was a man of deep spiritual conviction. His faithfulness in church attendance and willingness to serve gave evidence of his keen interest in the Lord’s work. His Cheerful disposition and his readiness to share the burdens of his fellowmen has won the respect and admiration of all who knew him.

He leaves his sorrowing companion, seven children, one brother, Joe of Halstead; three sisters, Mrs. E. A. Johnson, Rich Hill, Mo.; Mrs. A. L. Yost of Moundridge; and Mrs. Obed Johnson of Halstead; and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Calvary Mennonite church on June 26, conducted by Rev. E. M. Yost. A mixed quartet sang “No Disappointment In Heaven,” “Pearly White City,” “Sometime We’ll Understand,” and “Lord Speak To Me.”

Pall bearers were A. F. Willems, C. J. Dirks, Lincoln Dirks, J. P. Unruh, Fred A. Schmidt and Lewis Schmidt. Interment in Fairview cemetery.
