MRS. J. H. HOHMANN
Elisabeth Sarah Kuehny, daughter of John and Magdelina Kuehny, was born July 22, 1872, at Summerfield, Illinois. When she was a small child the family moved to a farm near Halstead, Kansas. On April 3, 1887, she was baptized and became a member of the Mennonite church there.
On December 20, 1891, she was married to Justus H. Hohmann. They established their home on a farm near the old home and lived there for about eight years. in 1899 they came to Deer Creek settling on the farm which has since been the family home. Here they became charter members of the Deer Creek Mennonite church.
She has been in rather poor health for a number of years, and after the sudden death of her husband just four months ago, she failed rapidly.
After 10 days of acute illness in the hospital, she passed away on Sunday January 21, 1945, at the age of 72 years, 5 months, and 28 days.
She was preceded in death by her husband and two sons, Oscar and Paul.
She leaves to mourn her passing her family: Lloyd of the home, Walter and family of North Newton, Karl and family of Deer Creek, Ruth and family of Tulsa, Okla., Lois and family of Cheney, Kansas, three sisters, Mrs. Anna Dester and Miss Clara Kuehny of St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. Mary Wilson of Stanwood, Washington. A brother, Albert Kuehny of Bremerton, Washington, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 23, at the Deer Creek Mennonite church, conducted by Rev. Herbert Miller, local pastor. Interment was in the local cemetery.
