MRS. LEVINA HOFSTETTER

Levina Hofstetter, daughter of Daniel and Dinah (Welty) Gerber, was born three miles east of Kidron, Ohio, on May 10, 1879, and peacefully fell asleep at her home in Kidron on the morning of Oct. 27, 1954, following a sudden heart seizure. She had reached the age of 75 years, five months, 17 days.

In her youth she confessed Christ as her Lord and Saviour, remaining a true and faithful witness for Him in her quiet and unassuming manner. With her loving companion she shared the responsibility and rich enjoyment of rearing a family and shared with him the joy of bringing them to know the Lord. She was a member of the Kidron Mennonite church where she attended regularly as her health permitted. She enjoyed working with others in the Sewing Circle Department of the church and was ever willing to perform deeds of kindness for others.

On June 8, 1901 she was married to David J. Hofstetter with whom she walked life’s pathway for more than 53 years. This union was blessed with eleven children, six of whom survive her. They are Sylvan of Apple Creek, R. D.; Clyde of Sarasota, Florida; Lores of Dalton, R. D.; Willis and Clair, both of Apple Creek, R. D.; and one daughter, Cora, of the home. She was preceded in death by two sons and three daughters who died in infancy.

Surviving besides her husband, five sons and one daughter are 15 grandchildren; three brothers, Amos of Colfax, Wash.; Phillip and Elbert of Dalton, R. D.; three sisters, Hulda (Mrs. John C. Hofstetter) of Dalton, R. D.; Anna, (Mrs. Edwin Zuercher) of Orrville R. D.; and Edna of Dalton, R.D.; besides many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Oct. 30, from her home and the Kidron Mennonite church. Rev. Reuben Hofsetter, Rev. Allen Bixler and Rev. Isaac Zuercher officiated. Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church.

Attending the funeral were relatives and friends from Canton, Akron, Big Prairie, Stanwood, Shreve, West Salem, Wooster, Smithville, Millersburg, Berlin, Massillon, Jefferson and Walnut Creek, Ohio, and from Florida.
