RETIRED FARMER, NATIVE OF SWITZERLAND DIED AT ORRVILLE, OHIO

Orrville, Ohio. — Funeral services for Abraham C. Hofstetter, 83, well known retired farmer, were held at the Kidron Mennonite church April 1. He passed away at the Dunlap Memorial hospital here on March 29. He was born in Canton Bern, Switzerland, on Dec. 16, 1868, and came to this country at the age of 12. A respected resident of the Kidron community, he had taught a Sunday school class for over 50 years.

Surviving are three sons, three daughters and 17 grandchildren.

A. C. HOFSTETTER

Abraham C. Hofstetter was born Dec. 16, 1868, in Bern, Switzerland, and died March 29, 1952 at the Dunlap Memorial hospital in Orville of pneumonia, aged 83 years, three months and 12 days.

He came to this country with his parents at the age of 12 years. In March 1888 he was baptized and received into the Mennonite church by Bishop Jacob Nussbaum and remained faithful to his Saviour, always active in church work. He was a Sunday school teacher for over 50 years.

Feb. 27, 1913, he was married to Elizabeth Kratzer who preceded him in death in 1949.

His occupation was farming. He was a kind and respected neighbor; always ready to give his children good counsel. He will also be missed by his grandchildren to whom he showed his loving kindness.

Surviving are three sons and three daughters. George and Clayton of Dalton, Walter of Orrville, Luella, Mrs. Clarence Nussbaum, living close to her father’s home, Frances, Mrs. Paul Gerber, and Elrena, Mrs. Chester Lehman, who both live on their father’s homestead near Dalton. He is also survived by five brothers and one sister, Daniel of Orrville, Jacob of Apple Creek, Peter of Salem, Ore., John of Dalton, Simon and Mariana of Kidron; also 17 grandchildren and host of other relatives. Two brothers, Christian and David, and one sister Anna, Mrs. Reuben Lehman, preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held April 1, 1952, at the Kidron Mennonite church. Services at the home were in charge of Rev. Allen Bixler and at the church by Bishop Reuben Hofstetter, assisted by Rev. Isaac Zuercher. Rev. Hofstetter used for his text Psalm 116:15, “Precious in the sight of the Lord are the death of his saints." Pallbearers were his nephews, Calvin Lehman, Milton, Marvin, Waldo and LaVerne Hofstetter, and George Brenneman.

Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery.
