Little Boy Drowns

Freeman, S. D. — Members of the Freeman Fire Department were called to the Robert Hofer home near here Sept. 28 in an unsuccessful effort to save the life of the Hofers' three-year-old son, who had fallen into a cesspool. Death was caused by drowning.

Services Held for Boy, Age 3, Who Drowned

Freeman, S. d. — Funeral services conducted at the Salem Mennonite Brethren Church near Bridgewater on Oct. 1 for three-year-old Phillip Ray Hofer were largely attended.

The little boy, son of Robert L. Hofer of rural Freeman, drowned after falling into a cesspool at the farm home on Sept. 28. The boy's mother, Hope Fern Hofer, and an infant brother died 16 months ago.

Surviving in addition to the father are the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John A. Hofer of Marion and Mr. and Mrs. Edgar A. Hofer of Bridgewater, and a great-grandmother, Mrs. Paul P. Hofer of Carpenter, S. D.
