PETER A. HOFER

It has pleased the Lord of life and death to call our beloved father from this vale of sorrow to the mansions above. Peter A. Hofer was born Feb. 8, 1897, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hofer, at Bridgewater, S. D. He died unexpectedly Monday afternoon, Aug. 12, at his farm home near Doland, S. D., having attained the age of 66 years, six months and four days.

He was baptized upon his confession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ in 1916 in the New Hutterthal Church of Bridgewater by Rev. Paul Tschetter.

On March 8, 1917 he was united in marriage with Anna Tschetter at Bridgewater. In 1919 the Hofers moved from the Bridgewater community to Spink County, S. D. where he engaged in farming until the time of his passing. At this time also their church membership was transferred to the Hutterthal church, Carpenter, S. D. In July 1923 the Hofers became charter members of the newly organized Emmanuel Mennonite Church. Here he remained active in worship and in support of the Lord’s work.

He was preceded in death by his wife Anna in 1953, his parents, four brothers, four sisters and one grandson.

Left to mourn his departure are six children, Gladys and DeWayne, at home, Harris, Paul, Joe and Elgin, all of Doland, S. D.; one brother, Paul A. of Bridgewater; two sisters, (Sarah) Mrs. Jake S. Stahl and Miss Rebecca Hofer of Mt. Lake, Minn., and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held August 15 at 2 p.m. at the Emmanuel Mennonite Church south of Doland. Rev. Wilbur Schmidt officiated and Rev. Paul Glanzer was in charge of the committal service.
