KATHERINE M. HOFER

Katherine M. Hofer, our beloved mother, was born June 12, 1894 on the farm of her parents, Paul and Anne Kleinsasser, north of Freeman, S. D. She suffered a severe stroke on Nov. 10, 1961, and went home to be with the Lord the same day. she reached the age of 67 years, four months and 28 days.

She received her elementary education in a rural school near her parent's farm. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her personal Saviour. Upon her confession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, she was baptized on Nov. 2, 1913 by Rev. J. A. Bachman and received into the fellowship of the Bethany Mennonite Church, Freeman.

She was united in marriage to John J. B. Hofer on March 30, 1918 by Rev. John P. Hofer. The Lord permitted them to share joys and sorrows for 43 years and seven months. He blessed this union with six children. They first established their home in Beadle County where they lived from 1919 to 1934. They were charter members of the Fairfield Mennonite Church. In 1934 they moved to Turner County where they lived until her death. She transferred her membership to the Hutterthal Church and remained a member there until her death.

Mother was sick many times in her life. Twice she was seriously ill but, as in her last illness, she was courageous and showed a strong faith in God. She prayed daily for the well-being of her children. As a result of mother's testimony, teaching and prayers, all of her children are assured of being with her in heaven. Her home was always open to her family visitors and servants of the Lord.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Anna, Mary and Elizabeth; one brother, Ike; a sister in infancy; one sister-in-law and three brother-in-law.

Those who mourn her passing are her husband; one daughter and five sons and their families, Katherine of Sioux Falls, John of Dolton, Arnold at home, Theodore of Dolton, Samuel of Denver, Colo., Paul of Doland; 14 grandchildren; three brothers, Paul and john of Freeman, and Jake of Huron; one sister, Mrs. John S. (Susie) Waldner of Huron; three sisters-in-law and one brother-in law. — The Family.
