Birth date: 1893 Oct 3
text of obituary:
Andrew A. Hofer, son of Joshua and Anna Hofer, was born Oct. 3, 1893, at Bridgewater, S. D.
In 1908 he moved to Beadle and worked on the farm. In World War I he was in service 11 months.
On March 9, 1919, he was married to Anna Stahl. To this union five children were born. In 1925 they acquired the farm near Carpenter which was their home till Sept. 1956.
He accepted Christ Jesus as his personal Saviour and upon the confession of his faith was baptized by Rev. Jacob M. Tschetter Aug. 27, 1917. He was an active member of the church and served as an usher for many years.
For 60 years Mr. Hofer enjoyed good health but in Sept. 1953 surgery was required to remove a cancerous growth. For a short time he improved but in 1954 he had to go to the hospital again for surgery. In the spring of 1956 his health began to fail rapidly. Because of poor health he had a sale on the farm and bought a home in Huron at 869 Frank Street S. E. Here his wife Anna and the family did all they could to relieve his suffering. He entered the Huron Hospital on Dec. 18, and left this world Jan. 2, at the gae [sic] of 63 years, three months, one day.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, one in infancy and one at an early age, two brothers and one sister. He is survived by his wife Anna; two sons, Tobey of Carpenter and Leonard of Huron; one daughter Alma, (Mrs. Ruben Wollmann) of Freeman; four brothers, Paul of Doland, Joshua of Huron, John of Emery, and Pete of Bridgewater; and five grandchildren.
