90-Year-Old Kalona, Ia. Resident Dies Suddenly

Kalona, Iowa. — Funeral services for David B. Hochstetler, a resident of this community throughout his 90 years, were held Sunday, April 14, at the East Union Mennonite Church, of which he was a member. J. John J. Miller and A. Lloyd Swartzendruber officiated.

Mr. Hochstetler, who had not been ill, died unexpectedly April 11 while pruning grapes in Kalona. One month earlier several hundred relatives and friends joined him in the observance of his 90th birthday in the Community Room of the Farmers Savings Bank here.

Born near here March 11, 1873, he was married to Emma Stutzman in 1895. They lived on a farm near Kalona before moving to town in 1935. Mrs. Hochstetler died in 1952.

Surviving are three daughters, two sons, 20 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Yoder of Kalona.
