MANELEUS D. HOCHSTETLER

Maneleus D. Hochstetler was born Aug. 22, 1870, in LaGrange county, Ind., the son of Daniel and Barbara (Miller) Hochstetler. He died Nov. 15, 1960, at the age of 90 years, two months and 24 days, in the farm where he was born and lived most of his life.

He farmed while able and was funeral director 40 years for the Old Order Amish Mennonites of which he was a faithful member from his youth. He was married to Elizabeth Schlabach on April 6, 1893. She died in 1927. Surviving are five sons, Albert, Tobias, and Christian of Topeka, Ind., and Daniel and Urias of LaGrange, Ind.; one daughter, Mrs. Milton (Anna Mae) Lambright of Topeka, Ind.; 37 grandchildren and 95 great-grandchildren.

He was married in 1932 to Mattie (Bontrager) Schlabach, who died in 1949. Surviving are one step-son, Ed Schlabach of Shipshewana, Ind.; three step-daughters, Mrs. Melvin (Fannie) Miller of Goshen, Ind., Mrs. Ed (Polly) Lambright, Mrs. Sam (Katie) Miller and Mrs. Enos (Mattie) Eash of Topeka, Ind.; and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Yoder, Hazleton, Iowa, and Mrs. Menno (Mattie) Bontrager, Anabel, Mo.

In October he visited the two sisters in Iowa and Missouri and stood the trip well. On Nov. 12 he had a stroke and peacefully passed away three days later.

Funeral services were held at the home by Bishop William Yoder and Rev. Neal Yoder of the home congregation, with burial in the Miller cemetery.
