Birth date: 1865 Nov 28
text of obituary:
MRS. AUGUST HIRSCHLER
Mrs. Barbara Hirschler, daughter of the late Christopher and Marie Bentzinger Anton, was born near Lacrew, Iowa, on November 28, 1865. She was confirmed and received into the fellowship of the Zion Evangelical church at Primrose by the Reverend J. Kern on March 21, 1880.
On December 25, 1886, she was united in marriage with August H. Hirschler, and if she had lived until Christmas Day they would have observed their sixty-second wedding anniversary. This union was blessed with two children, a daughter Laura, who was married to Oliver Leisy and preceded her mother in death on April 18, 1942; a son, Erwin, who was united in marriage with Viola Klingler.
After their marriage they lived on a farm west of Dover until March 1892, when they moved on their farm east of Dover, where they resided until 1920. In December 1920 they moved to Donnellson, where they lived until Mrs. Hirschler broke her hip on March 8, 1947, and was no longer able to do her housework. After that they made their home with their son, Erwin, where she was cared for by her daughter-in-law.
Other serious complications set in and she had to be taken to the Graham hospital on October 22, where she passed away on December 22, 1948, at the age of 83 years and 24 days. Sister Hirschler was a long and patient sufferer and had a desire to go home to be with her Lord.
After their marriage in 1886 she united with the Zion Mennonite church at Donnellson, Iowa, of which she remained a loyal and faithful member until her death.
She leaves to mourn her departure her deeply bereaved husband; her son Erwin and his wife; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Jacob and George Anton of Donnellson, and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Ball, also of Donnellson, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at the Zion Mennonite church at Donnellson, and were conducted by the pastor, Rev. Elmer Basinger. Burial was made in the Mennonite cemetery, about three miles northwest of town.
