text of obituary:

ARNOLD S. HIRSCHLER

Arnold S. Hirschler, oldest son of Rev. and Mrs. J. S. Hirschler, nee Christine Schmidt, was born on March 20, 1873, at Franklin Center, Iowa. He with his parents and their family came to Hillsboro, Kansas in 1884. It was in this community that Arnold grew to manhood.

On Sept. 15, 1889, he was baptized upon the confession of his faith in Jesus Christ and received into the membership of this church. He remained a member of the church throughout his life.

In 1900 he served a short term as principal of the Hillsboro high school. The following year he attended Kansas University and graduated with an A. B. degree, having achieved an outstanding scholastic record. In 1902 he was made professor of mathematics at Bethel College. It was during this year that he became emotionally ill, and the abilities which he had that promised so much in service to his day and generation were abruptly brought to an end. From that day until his death he was never completely well, although he was able to do some tasks of service in the church and for people with whom he stayed.

After spending some time in the state hospital, he came to make his home with the Jacob J. Hiebert family. He was with them from 1921 until 1946 when he went to the Bethesda Home for the Aged in Goessel.

He was relieved of his pain-wracked body and disturbed mind on Sept. 1, 1955, reaching the age of 82 years, five months and 11 days. The pains of body are gone and he has again been restored to mental peace and health. His Maker called him to enter the realms beyond to receive a new body that would be his throughout all the endless ages of eternity.

He leaves one brother, Otto, of Los Angeles, Calif., and one sister-in-law, Mrs. D. A. Hirschler of Emporia, several nieces and nephews, other distant relatives and loving friends who ministered to him in his need.
